State Provides Fire Districts with Millions in Funding to Support Critical Public Safety Needs
Phoenix, AZ (5/23/2024) – The Arizona Department of Forestry and Fire Management (DFFM) earmarks $4.3 million in grant money for 15 Arizona fire districts to invest in critical firefighting necessities. The funding stems from Senate Bill 1720 to help address significant infrastructure and equipment needs for recognized fire districts throughout the state. Essentially, the grant funding helps supplement fire district budgets to increase public safety efforts within their communities.
Fire districts earmarked for the funding include:
- Blue Ridge Fire District, Coconino County – $296,856
- Bullhead City Fire District. Mohave County – $125,000
- Christopher Kohls Fire District, Gila County – $103,084
- Colorado City Fire District, Mohave County – $355,304
- Elfrida Fire District, Cochise County – $291, 976
- Fry Fire District, Cochise County – $400,000
- Goldfield Ranch Fire District, Maricopa County – $144,982
- Green Valley Fire District, Pima County – $325,000
- Hellsgate Fire District, Gila County – $174,795
- Mormon Lake Fire District, Coconino County – $400,000
- Rio Verde Fire District, Maricopa County – $400,000
- Seligman Fire District, Yavapai County – $370,192
- Three Points Fire District, Pima County – $249,496
- Whetstone Fire District, Cochise County - $344,604
- Vernon Fire District, Apache County – $338,683
“It is critical that fire districts across the state have the resources they need to do their jobs safely and efficiently and protect us from harm,” said Governor Katie Hobbs. “I am proud that we were able to provide this funding, and I am grateful to every Arizonan working to keep our communities safe.”
In the two-month grant application period, DFFM received funding requests from 83 fire districts totaling nearly $26 million. SB 1720 appropriated approximately $5 million to the department for disbursement. Eligible fire districts could request up to $400,000 in grant funding to support their needs.
